Santa Ponsa is a tourist town belonging to the Spanish municipality of Calviá, in Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands. With a census of 10,736 inhabitants, it is the most populated nucleus of the municipality. It contains a beach half a kilometre long, another thirty metres long called “Caló de’n Pellicer”, a marina and a hundred hotels, apartments, shops, bars, nightclubs and restaurants. It is internationally recognized for the large influx of tourists who visit every year.

It possesses renowned historical importance in Mallorca, due to the disembarkation of the Aragonese king Jaime I of Aragon with the purpose of conquering the island in 1229. During the Middle Ages, it consisted of an important commercial port that had its own hospital. In the 16th century it functioned as a commercial transport port, being called “Término de Santa Ponsa” before being called “Término de Calviá”. In 1984, one of its possessions consisted of important political meetings, such as that of the Spanish president Felipe González.
